Health disclosure
Pregnancy yoga classes are adapted from traditional yoga poses to make yoga 100% safe throughout pregnancy.
You can start pregnancy classes any time after the first 12 weeks. It is not recommended to commence pregnancy yoga as a 'first time yogi' after 36 weeks.
Only pregnancy yoga classes are suitable for pregnancy.
Yoga is exercise: we stretch, flex and keep our bodies health through dynamic movement, breathing and meditation. Yoga is relaxing, but it can also be strenuous. You don't need to be fit or flexible to start yoga but you must be in good health. If you have any injuries, medical conditions or restricted movement, please contact us before attending class to discuss if our style of yoga is suitable for you.
Before starting a new exercise program, it is recommended that you discuss your current health and fitness situation with your doctor. While our live-streamed and online classes include safety instructions and options for every fitness level, you do need to be aware of your own health and fitness during each session.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is pregnancy yoga (prenatal yoga)?
Pregnancy yoga has been specifically designed for pregnant women. The gentle stretches and focused breathing techniques help expectant mothers to feel relaxed and prepared for the journey ahead. Prenatal yoga can also help to improve delivery outcomes.
Is yoga safe for pregnancy?
Yes, the gentle movements in prenatal yoga have been adapted to ensure that no harm comes to mum or bub. Having said this, pregnant women should always check with their doctor before starting yoga, as the poses may trigger contractions (though these cases are rare). Once you get the green light from your doctor, you should stick to yoga styles that are safe for pregnancy. You will need to avoid certain styles of yoga, such as hot yoga, while expecting.
When can I start pregnancy yoga?
Many women start pregnancy yoga during their second trimester, when they have more energy and less nausea. Having said this, you can participate from your first trimester, but please speak with your doctor first.
What are the benefits of pregnancy yoga?
Prenatal yoga helps expectant mothers to feel calm and empowered during an overwhelming period in their lives that can be fraught with mixed emotions. Just as impressively, pregnancy yoga may shorten delivery time during labour and lower pelvic pain.
